The bread ROSE properly this time, and once it's patted out it will cook fairly quickly. She slices one of the melons they bought yesterday and wraps the melon pieces in paper thin strips of a salty ham, a spiritual cousin of prosciutto. That and wine will tide them over while she cooks the flatbreads and finishes up the dish she left in the coals. It is a mix of eggplant, garbanzo beans, onions, garlic, and other vegetables and herbs, with a bit of the ham in them for seasoning.
