He is still a little suspicious, but for the sake of the ritual (and the villagers) he is willing to try it. At least once. Inwardly, he is thinking about possible herbs they could mix up that might help with his recovery time, or spells for his stamina...
Since this is just the "practice" attempt, he does not feel bad about wandering over and putting his hand onto the Rod as she holds it. The likeness is...impressive.
