For as cocky and brash as he can be at times, dominance is NOT one of Skellig's character traits. But most of that bravado comes from a sense of inadequacy, an underlying fear of being attacked, chastised, put down . Here he does not have that to worry about, because not only with Kreyu is he safe, but within this universe he is also treated as an equal - and by others, as more than such. So his confidence has improved.
