Skellig is listening to all of it (faintly amused by the squirrels) as he allows his body to become more in 'tune' with this area, these surroundings, this climate - all of it needs to be adjusted to, and it takes a bit of time to allow his senses to get aligned properly.
Her body weight against him is a familiar waypoint, as is her heartbeat, her breathing pattern. At some point, he allows himself to drift, but it is very, very light - he is stable here in the tree, but he is also on 'watch' duty in this new environment.
