Akatan's sisters have gone to live with a cousin in a distant town for a year or two, perhaps longer. It will be easier for the wounds to their hearts to heal away from this place.
Kreyu moved carefully, slower than she COULD have moved, as she and Skellig went together from house to house, announcing their marriage. Whatever suspicions may have been laid at their feet before, they were welcomed this time! Their neighbors wished them all luck and happiness, gave the kind of small gifts that are exchanged in places such as this: a jar of pickles, some beer, a pottery bowl, the promise of a kitten from the next litter to protect their house from vermin!

She and Skellig both get up before the proper dawn the next day. Work during planting season starts as soon as it is possible to see and BEFORE breakfast. Kreyu leaves the house entirely naked, as Skellig is, fully intending to work in the fields! This plan lasts less than a minute, as one of the elderly ladies who will be helping cook the food for everyone in the central area near the well sees Kreyu and her scar and starts to FUSS over her immediately.
MORE elderly ladies appear and start fussing and Kreyu gives up on doing anything they consider 'too strenuous for someone in her condition' for now.
"It appears I am being herded," she says softly to Skellig, but she's smiling. "Last year, they started digging on either side of the village at once, two teams."
