Kreyu intended to dance in the sky with Skellig the very next day, but events have conspired to prevent that from occurring. A raid on the village by former soldiers meant many wounded to heal and much damage to fix. Akatan's sister, Neferet, has a definite crush, an infatuation, with Skellig. She hasn't done anything but look and exchange some friendly words, but it still makes her brother FURIOUS.
For all that Euripedes was from a different time and place, a line he had Medea speak in the play of the same name still rings true: "I would rather stand three times in the line of battle than once bear a child." Even with Kreyu's magic, with Taweret's skill, childbirth is incredibly dangerous. There are reasons why Taweret's goddess image of She Who Is Great has elements of the hippo, the lion, and the crocodile, a fearsome appearance to drive off the many threats facing a woman giving birth. The second birth in a week began this morning and was still going on when the sun began to set. Not a good sign.
Skellig, trying to burn off nervous energy while Kreyu was working, happened across a few of the village men drinking. They said things about Kreyu they should not have said. That he was FEEDING on Kreyu, drinking her blood. There...may have been a fight. At least they don't think he's a demon anymore, you can't give a demon a black eye in a brawl with your fists!
It is truly night now, and Skellig can hear Kreyu's tired footsteps on the road...

Date: 2024-04-11 01:48 am (UTC)To prove his point, he leans up and kisses her, showing her just how 'awake' he really is.
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 01:51 am (UTC)"I see better than a human in the dark, but not by much," she admits. "You'd have to hold my hand or something, if I went with you."
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 02:13 am (UTC)He sits up carefully.
"And I could hold you," he offers. "If you would settle with your back against my chest, tuck your wings - it would be easy to fly both of us until it was open enough that you could fly without risk?"
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 02:16 am (UTC)She's guessing he could make her lighter if need be, like the corpse of the whale.
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 02:28 am (UTC)His hands might wander over her breasts, the same way as his lips slowly trail kisses over the back of her shoulder and up the side of her neck, bringing his voice to her ear.
"Would you make it easier for us to talk, once more? I do not know if that wears off."
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 02:34 am (UTC)"Feels like it's almost spent," Kreyu murmurs. The syllables roll off her tongue again, making words arrive as they did before. "There we go, should be good for a few hours now at least."
She tucks her wings close, relaxes into his hold, utterly trusting that he won't let her fall.
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 02:48 am (UTC)Once he is satisfied, he kisses her neck again, obviously pleased. Hugging her close (just because he can) he allows his wings to beat, sending them both skyward.
He will not let her fall.
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 02:55 am (UTC)She's never been carried aloft on someone else's wings before, but she's not afraid. The stars are bright and vast above them, the sea as still as it ever gets. "Tempted to stay exactly where I am even when we get up to a decent height," she tells him. His closeness, the feel of him, the patterns he traces on her skin, they all feel so good.
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 03:06 am (UTC)"I would not object to the opportunity to hold you in my arms," he says honestly, getting them to a height that is above the trees, but not much higher - he wishes to 'scout' the island further, now that night has fallen. The moon is low on the horizon but full, and rising, casting a glint across the sea. He banks slowly to turn, following the coastline. This is not the frenzied flight of earlier, their other ritual. This is for pleasure, and to work off his energy, settle his thoughts. "You complete a part of me, like this."
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 03:13 am (UTC)"We should head back tomorrow, so Taweret doesn't worry. Though we may be leaving again shortly after that, let things settle." And to let enough time pass that she could 'heal' naturally from such a grievous injury.
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 03:22 am (UTC)A slow, easy glide on an updraft takes them past a rockier stretch of the shoreline, where the waves crash now with less fury on a calmer night.
"...it was as if every star in the sky was brought inside of my soul, searing your name brightly upon my very being, millions of times over. Endlessly giving myself to you."
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 03:31 am (UTC)"Do you think that's why we felt familiar to each other, when we met?"
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 03:46 am (UTC)And truthfully, ever since her necklace shattered beneath his fingertips, her Karma flooding through him (along with her blood filling his lungs), he has felt a greater sense of connection to her. Though he thought it just trauma from the fear of losing her, perhaps Taweret was right - perhaps he did beat back Death...
"The universe is full of wonders that not even beings like you or I can explain," he adds. "But I look forward to exploring them with you."
Another slow turn, an easy glide. "Returning tomorrow would be wise, we would not want her to worry." He presses his lips to her neck. "Would you heal in our home, or would we need to travel again?"
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 11:44 am (UTC)"Travel might be prudent. My body is healed, now, but a human would take a LONG time to heal naturally from an arrow wound." She laughs. "I fear having to play the invalid at home would drive me stir crazy in short order."
"Given the...circumstances, I think no one will question my not taking visitors while I recover, or you staying so close to me that YOU are not seen either."
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 12:17 pm (UTC)Skellig knows there would be questions, but he also knows that the midwife is very smart and she has likely dealt with many things more difficult than explaining why someone has not been seen as they recover from injury.
"Where would you like to go?"
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 12:23 pm (UTC)Though even the 'city' will be far smaller than the cities Skellig remembers.
"There are also rumors of a lost city relatively near to our village. Rumors that a dragon was seen there." Kreyu pauses. "Though it would be wise to check in with my brothers before going there. If the dragon is who I THINK it might be..." She trails off, there is fear there, remembered pain.
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 12:29 pm (UTC)"Would you have me also meet your brothers, or would you prefer to do that alone?" There is no fear in his voice, merely curiosity. "I would not wish to leave you, but I would understand if there are things I am not welcomed to do."
Just like any relationship, sometimes things must be done where the other simply cannot be there. Even if Skellig will find it very difficult to let her be without him, after coming so close to losing her completely.
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 12:34 pm (UTC)She flushes. "I have been...avoiding speaking to either of them. They were not pleased with my choices, and I have feared being scolded like a foolish child."
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 01:09 pm (UTC)They have reached higher, come to 'top' of one of the outcroppings of this island, and he carefully turns to use the updrafts to his advantage, a slow circle as his eyes scan the darkness below them.
(With the distance from land, there are not many other mammals here, no real 'prey' to speak of that would be worth hunting.)
"You should speak to them," he adds, though it is not judgmental. "I wonder...would they have been able to sense your wounds?" Another thought, a brief concern - would her brothers be able to sense the grip which Death had upon her, before Skellig had worked to push Them back and release Their grasp? "Or is that something you will have to tell them yourself?"
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 10:14 pm (UTC)Kreyu shivers. "I do not think they would sense that, no. They did not know when the dragon Heka....took his time, killing me." Kreyu shoves those memories away.
"I would be afraid to tell Revenen, his temper is as fiery as his nature, and he might decide that killing the perpetrator was not enough."
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 10:27 pm (UTC)But that is not what he wants to think about right now.
That memory gets shoved aside, similar to that of Heka...
"If they would not have sensed it, then there would be no harm in keeping the details sparse," he continues, redirecting his attention to their flightpath - the far side of the island beckons. "We would go to the lost city, if it is safe to do so."
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 10:51 pm (UTC)"There might be things there that could be put to better use in service to the living. If we are lucky, perhaps even an item like my necklace."
Kreyu's emotions brighten at the the thought of treasure. Dragon.
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 11:01 pm (UTC)Her brightened emotions easily ripple across his senses, and he laughs almost automatically, pleased. So pleased, in fact, he drops a shoulder with delight and sends them into an easy barrel roll.
And if that just means he has to hold her closer to him, to 'make sure' she doesn't fall?
There's no telling where his hands might end up.
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 11:07 pm (UTC)"There's, there's a piece of jewelry in my hoard that would fit you," she begins. "It would be safer for you to wear it than I, since you can't change shape and ruin it by accident."
no subject
Date: 2024-04-11 11:52 pm (UTC)His interest is piqued, but that doesn't distract his focus from their spiral - or from his hands as he cups her breasts carefully, his lips wandering to press against the skin at the base of her ear. He can sense her want, her excitement, and he wants to give the dragon what she desires...
"Tell me about it," he says, as they exit the roll.
